A domain name is the name of your website, and it is generally prefaced
by "http://www". Think of domain names as the phone numbers of
the Internet, only YOU get to decide what it will be. It is how
people will contact, or reach your website by typing it into the
address bar in their browser. All domain names are unique, so
before you choose one you need to be sure that no one else is
using it.
Total Computer Solutions offers specialized domain registration services
for .COM, .NET, .INFO, .BIZ, .TV, .WS, .CC, .BZ and .ORG domains. While we only provide registration for select domains, we can host any domain on our network.
A domain pointer allows you to have multiple domains on our servers
resolve to a single webspace. For example, if you host "SampleDomain.com"
with us and would like "SampleDomain.net" and "SampleDomain.org" to display
the site content of "SampleDomain.com", then you would use domain pointers.
Then, when a visitor types "SampleDomain.org" into the address bar,
they are taken to a site that contains the site content of "SampleDomain.com"
but the address remains "SampleDomain.org." Thus, a domain pointer gives
viewers the impression that each domain is a separate website
because they can be viewed without the address changing to "SampleDomain.com"
in the viewer's browser address bar.
To point a domain, both the active domain and the "pointed" domains
must be on our servers. Your first five domain pointers with
Total Computer Solutions are free.
Any additional pointers carry a one-time $19.95 setup fee and
a $19.95 yearly fee.
A domain redirect allows you to have a domain for which you are
not paying for hosting service (the domain must be "parked" on
our server) and redirect it to a different site that is actively
hosted on our server. For example, if you are hosting "SampleDomain.com"
and want visitors typing in "SampleDomain.net" to be taken to "SampleDomain.com",
a domain redirect will do this for you. Unlike a domain pointer,
a domain redirect actually sends visitors seeking "SampleDomain.net"
to "SampleDomain.com." If you were using a pointer, "SampleDomain.net" would
continue to appear in the browser. With a redirect, the address
changes.
Your first five domain redirects with Total Computer Solutions are free.
Any additional redirects carry a one-time $19.95 setup fee and
a $19.95 yearly fee.
A third level domain, or TLD, allows you to allow direct access
to a subfolder in your webspace. For example, you can create a
TLD called "prices.SampleDomain.com" that will point to the "/prices/"
subfolder of your domain and will display content separate from "SampleDomain.com",
such as a price list, a signup form, a site member's profile,
etc.
Your first five third level domains with Total Computer Solutions are free.
Any additional third level domains carry a one-time $19.95 setup fee and
a $19.95 yearly fee.
Please note that the Domain Pointer option and the Domain Redirect
option cannot be utilized to point domains to locations not hosted
by Total Computer Solutions. We are unable to point outside of our network.
